Eschersheim was first mentioned in a surviving document around 1000. It belonged in the Bornheimerberg region. Eschersheim’s landowner was approximately 1000. This was Seligenstadt monastery, which left part of its property to Haina in 1253. The Lords of Hagen- Munzenberg owned the bailiwick for Eschersheim and Ginnheim’s monastery estates. It passed to the lords Eppstein, Konigstein, and Falkenstein through the Munzenberg inheritance. 1278 Haina Abbey sold the Eschersheim estates it owned to Arnsburg Abbey.
In 1320, King Ludwig IV gave the Bornheimerberg and Eschersheim to Ulrich II (of Hanau). The Emperor allowed Frankfurt to take over the Bornheimer Berg from Hanau in 1336. However, in 1351 Emperor Charles IV renewed Hanau’s pledge. In 1434, Emperor Sigismund even enfeoffed Count Reinhard of Hanau with a Bornheimerberg. The County of Hanau was split in 1458 and Bornheimerberg was added to the County of Hanau- Munzenberg.
Because of its contradictory behavior, the Reich led to a dispute between Frankfurt und Hanau. Hanau was especially concerned that Frankfurt considered itself “surrounded” by Hanau territory. Frankfurt tried everything to stop this. Frankfurt’s claims to the nineteen offices were accepted by the Imperial Court, after a lengthy process that lasted more than 100 years. However, neither Frankfurt or the Empire was able to enforce the verdict. In 1481, Frankfurt agreed to a settlement. Hanau gave up all claims to the villages Bornheim, Hausen, and Oberrad to Frankfurt. Frankfurt was then given the Bornheimerberg office. Eschersheim became Hanau. The Counts of Hanau and Munzenberg pledged the remaining properties from the Seligenstadt monastery in Eschersheim as early as 1467.

Eschersheim was home to a court or hub court for the Fulda monastery, also known as the Cremser court, up until the modern period. It covered the towns of Ginnheim, Frankfurt-Bonames, Ober-Erlenbach, and possibly Eckenheim.
The Reformation was first established in its Lutheran form in County Hanau- Munzenberg in the middle of the 16th century. The County of Hanau was given a new name in a “second Reformation”. Count Philipp Ludwig II followed a reformist church policy starting in 1597. He used his jus Reformandi, his sovereign right, to decide the denomination of his subjects, and enforced it as binding for the county.
